Hello, readers and writers!
This week is a bit of a personal post and a life update. I’ve been back to school for a few weeks now, and the constant hustle has been getting to me. A counselor in high school once told me that life never gets less busy, and she was right. Each time I seem to overcome an obstacle, something new has taken up space in my schedule, making everything else still stressful and busy.
My Writing Schedule
Initially, I had blocked out entire sections of time to dedicate to writing, and a lot of it is going to different types of work. I’ll write free for a bit or journal. The book we’re reading for my creative writing class has given some helpful tips on becoming a stronger writer, and that will always be my goal, so I’m taking those writing exercises seriously. Which means spending more and more time working on other writing projects and not on my next manuscript.
The Importance of Reading for Fun
Now that school has returned, I have many reading assignments that can be interesting, but I also love reading for fun. Fitting more time in to read my contemporary romances have been difficult as I keep getting stuck on the same books for weeks at a time when I used to be able to read three or four novels in a week. There’s nothing wrong with working toward goals, but finding and dedicating time to reading for fun has been hard and takes up more time that could be used for writing.
Fitting in a Social Life
Since this is my last semester, I’ve been trying to make more of an effort to be human. In the previous six years, every free moment I’ve had has gone to homework or writing. I didn’t really have friends and my boyfriend, and I lived together, so it usually wasn’t hard to make time together. Now I’m trying to come back out of the wood-works and hang out with people again, so it’s taking up a lot of time.
In the meantime, I’m looking for adult jobs for after graduation and attempting to plan out a schedule that will give me dedicated time for writing future stories, this blog, an entertaining newsletter, and so much more. Wish me luck, and thanks for reading! I know I haven’t been incredibly consistent lately, but I’m hoping to change that soon.
Thanks for reading!
